The moment you step inside Universal Studios - Its a different world altogether ! I have never been to Disneyland before .. I just wonder how different it would be. Its a place where many magical characters from movies come to life.
Its better to take note of all the shows scheduled for the day and plan accordingly. There will be queue everywhere, but the nice thing is they indicate the current waiting time, which can be used to make optimal decisions to what to see when.
The park is divided into many zones. Madagascar, Hollywood, New York, Sci Fi, Far Far away, The Lost world, Ancient Egypt.. Apart from the scheduled shows, there are many street performances and activities that make the whole place come alive and you can be part of those too.
Lets start the journey-
Madagascar - Started off with King Julien's beach party ! A Merry go-round kind of ride, meant for kids .. but everyone's a kid, to some extent. There is also an interactive Donkey Live show, its just amazing how the donkey interacts with the live audience. Later in the evening watched live dance performance by Madagascar crew led by the King himself, and yeah they all like to move it, move it... thanks to Sacha Baron Cohen. You can click a few snaps with the cast after the performance.
Far Far Away - Enchanted Airways was a
The Lost World -
Waterworld was great fun to watch, I enjoyed freezing some action packed frames of the whole act put together by the performers.
The show had it all - action, gun shots, fire, jet-ski, lunatic pirates wetting the audience, pretty young lady doing the Tarzan thing along the ropes (with clothes on, of course!), airplane coming from no where, blasts blasts and more blasts. Canopy Flyer - another roller coaster ride. Jurassic Park rapids - was great fun too, reminded me of rafting in the river Ganga in Rishikesh.
Ancient Egypt - A different section indeed, I loved the Egyptian music. The Revenge of the Mummy - another roller coaster ride - it was so exciting that I went for it thrice. This ride is exciting for many reasons - its an indoor roller coaster, pitch dark, has very sharp reverse movements and to double the excitement - it has fireballs, mummies and The Book of Life to chill your bones. Tip : Go as an 'individual guest' to cut through the queue.
Sci - Fi City - This is what you should come for in Universal Studios. Too bad that at this time - the major attraction dueling roller coaster ride is not yet open. So, no cigars..
New York - This zone replicates the old NYC. Nothing special except the 'vintage' feel you get. Special Effects show by Steven Spielberg was boring for me, but the 'storm' did bring some nice winds.
Hollywood- This is Hollywood baby! You can see vintage police car parked on the road, several dance performances on going on stage. 'Monster Rock' was nice stuff to see. Very musical and lively. You can also meet, greet and 'shoot' characters like PO (King Fu Panda) [Panda ! I didn't see you.. scared that you will loose in our fight ? haa] , Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Frankenstein's Monster ..
Food inside is expensive. They really know how to make you pay by your nose. Souvenirs are over priced (but that's true everywhere I guess)
The entry fee is not justified unless all rides are opened, but still it's an awesome get away into a whole new world full of adventure and fun. A must see for everyone who visits the tiny red dot ! But make sure you wait until the elephant is fully functional and ready to roll.
